Arrested Iranian Youth Gone Without a Trace
Two student activists, Alireza Firoozi and Sorena Hashemi, have not been heard from since their arrests last Friday.
Both Firoozi and Hashemi were arrested last Friday while on a trip to Tabriz and have not called their families since. No police or intelligence authority in Tabriz or Tehran has a record of the two detained student activists.
Firoozi’s family who traveled to Azarbayjan province has not been able to get any info and to this moment it is unclear which authorities have ordered the arrests.
In the days following the arrest, individual or individuals who were using Firoozi’s Email ID attempted to contact his family and friends. Comments made by the individual in q
uestion have led to growing concern among Firoozi’s friends and family.
Alireaz Firoozi is a student and human rights activist and Sorena Hashemi is a member of Iranian Liberal Students organization. Firoozi and Hashemi were previously expelled from Zanjan University and received prison sentences after they exposed university’s deputy director for sexual abuse of a female student. Sorena Hashemi was arrested a second time last month but was released 20 days later. Their families continue their efforts to seek information.
